Gastronomy Tour Visits Macy's Famed Culinary Department, The Cellar

The Saturday, January 28, 2012 Taste History Culinary Tour included a first-time visit to the famed Cellar department at Macy's Boynton Beach Mall in Boynton Beach, FL.  The Cellar is notable for its culinary products, tools and gourmet kitchenware.  The visit to Macy's premiered the new food demos and tastings that are held at Macy's exclusively for the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History's Taste History Culinary Tours.    Macy’s, which is celebrated for its culinary programs including the Macy’s Culinary Council, is sponsoring the Taste History Culinary Tours of Historic Delray Beach & Boynton Beach, Florida.  

The food tour also traveled to Linda Bean's Perfect Maine in Downtown Delray Beach; Marianne Gourmet on George Bush Boulevard; and The Secret Garden Cafe and Ocean Avenue Market in Downtown Boynton Beach, FL followed by a visit to the Sicilian bakery Palermo's in Boynton Beach.  The culinary visit to the Secret Garden Cafe included a guacamole demonstration by the Chef.

Due to the exceeding popularity of the Taste History Culinary Tours, the first six-months sold-out. To meet the demand for the culinary tours, more dates have been added with the tours being expanded to consist of food sampling at a bed and breakfast, the Green Market and restaurants in historic Lake Worth, Florida including Lantana in Palm Beach County. The Lake Worth/Lantana tour will premiere on Saturday, April 14, 2012. Therefore, the tours are held at 11am year-round on the second, third and fourth Saturdays of each month, plus private group tours are offered. The Taste History Culinary Tours of Historic Delray Beach & Boynton Beach, Florida is offered on the third and fourth Saturdays of each month. And, Taste History Culinary Tours of Historic Lake Worth &  Lantana is held on the second Saturday of each month, year-round, effective April 14th. The Taste History Culinary Tours includes eateries, markets and farms in historic Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth and Lantana with some tours also visiting the Macy’s Home Store Department for cuisine sampling plus exclusive discounts at Macy’s specifically for the guests on the Taste History Culinary Tour.

Macy's sponsorship of the Taste History Culinary Tours includes exclusive shopping benefits at the store.

The purpose of the Taste History Culinary Tours is to infuse food history, food culture, foodways and food tastings into facts about the historic districts and pioneer people of Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, & Lantana, Florida (Palm Beach County) along with highlighting historic buildings and showcasing the influence of the agriculture industry,” said Lori J. Durante, Executive Tour Director for the Taste History Culinary Tours and founder/chief curator of the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History. Durante developed this new food history tour program. Durante continued: “Taste History provides a cultural experience for the palate and mind.”

Linda Bean's Perfect Maine in Downtown Delray Beach was visited for the January 28, 2012 Taste History Culinary Tour.  Lobster Rolls were the food experienced for the visit.

The Taste History Culinary Tours of Historic are the first food tours of its style in Palm Beach County and are conducted by the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History (MLFH) which is a non-profit 501c3 organization. These food tours are 4-hours and are a combination of bus riding and 4 to 6 blocks of walking tour with visits to at least 2 restaurants for cuisine tastings.   Some of the cuisines experienced may include Soul Food, Caribbean, Brazilian, Turkish, Ancient Italian, American, Seafood, Organic Tea, Farm-To-Table and Fruits & Vegetables from Farms.

Carli Smith, Director of Public Relations and Communications for the Palm Beach County Convention & Visitors Bureau traveled on a previous culinary history tour. “The Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History’s Taste History Culinary Tour was not only an incredibly delicious exploration of the southern Palm Beach County culinary scene, but more exceptional was the fascinating history revealed throughout the tour,” said Carli Smith, Director of PR and Communications for the Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Our tour leader Lori J. Durante was a true wealth of knowledge of the area’s historical events and legendary individuals, which she integrated so fluidly into each eatery and site we encountered. This tour is a great tourism asset to Palm Beach County, and an enlightening experience for residents interested in learning more about their own community.”
