Latin cuisine from Papa's Tapas is newest addition on Culinary Tour

The Bellaggio Country Club residents were the first to experience cusines from Taste History's newest restaurant partner Papa's Tapas that is located in the Pineapple Grove Arts District in Downtown Delray Beach, Florida.  Residents from Bellaggio were hosted on a private culinary tour that traveled to historic Delray Beach and Boynton Beach, Florida.  Taste History is conducted by the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History which is a non-profit 501c3 organization.

The November 5, 2012 epicurean tour also traveled to six restaurants and cafes that were the neapolitan cafe Scuola Vecchia, The Organic Tea Bar, Sefa Turkish Grill, Hurricane Alley Raw Bar & Restaurant and The Little House.  The tour guests were also led on a walking tour of the Avenue of the Arts in Downtown Boynton Beach, Florida.

The family-owned Papa's Tapas specializes in authentic Spanish dishes and featured for the tour hearty tastings of an old favorite, the Cuban sandwich and plantains. The tour guests received a special treat when they met the namesake Papa who was greeted with an arousing applause.  Around the 1860s, the Cuban sandwich (aka Cubano) was created as lunch food for workers in the cigar factories and sugar mills in Cuba.  The Cuban sandwich also has roots in Tampa, Florida, specifically in Ybor City in West Tampa, when the cigar industry developed in that area in the 1880s thus the immigration of Cuban workers and the Cuban sandwich.  Following the Communist Revolution in Cuba, there was a population boom in South Florida of Cubans who had exited their island home of Cuba.  With the new settlement of Cubans in Miami many cafeterias began to feature the Cuban sandwhich.
