Area resort concierges take restaurant-centric historical tour; you can, too
by M.M. Cloutier

Yesterday, 21 concierges from area resorts embarked on an excursion to Lake Worth and Lantana historic districts to get a taste of an increasingly popular tour experience centered, in large part, on restaurants and food.

In between visits to two historic bed-and-breakfast inns and three art galleries, they sampled signature menu items at South Shores Tavern, The Juice Bar, Brogues Downunder, and Tortilleria de Gallo
.
The outing is a snapshot of what Taste History Culinary Tours—run by the Boynton Beach-based nonprofit Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion and sponsored by Macy’s—regularly dish up in Lake Worth/Lantana and Delray Beach/Boynton Beach.

Since the tours debuted a year ago, they’ve expanded to include three a month in order to accommodate demand. Most of them sell out; each tour is limited to 25 people.
The four-hour, narrated cultural-and-culinary tours, a combination of bus-riding and strolling, touch down in Lake Worth/Lantana on the second Saturday of each month, and in Delray Beach/Boynton Beach on the third and fourth Saturday of each month.

Hotel concierges get tour of best of Lake Worth, Lantana
by Willie Howard

Concierges from hotels and vacation-planning firms toured bed and breakfasts, restaurants, bars, bakeries and art galleries Monday to get a better understanding of what Lake Worth and Lantana have to offer.

The 21 hospitality professionals, representing hotels such as The Breakers, the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach and Marriott hotels in Delray Beach and Fort Lauderdale, came by bus on one of the Taste of History Culinary Tours led by Lori Durante, executive director of the Museum of Lifestyle and Fashion History in Delray Beach.

1936 Sabal House Bed & Breakfast in Lake Worth, Florida toured by hotel concierges for the Taste History Culinary Tour
At the Sabal Palm House Bed and Breakfast on Golfview Road, the concierges sampled scones and tea in the courtyard on a cool, breezy morning. The bed and breakfast, operated by John and Colleen Rinaldi, is based in a 1936 house built of cypress that overlooks the city golf course and the Snook Islands Natural Area.

Colleen Rinaldi said Durante’s Taste of History tours, which have included Lake Worth since April, are showing what the city has to offer to a new audience.

“People are finding out about our downtown,” she said. “It sells the city.”

Organic Tea Bar in Delray Beach and the historic Boynton Woman's Club added to Culinary Tour

Taste History hosted a  sold-out private culinary tour of historic Delray Beach & Boynton Beach for the Four Seasons community on October 1, 2012. Their culinary excursion visited five restaurants and cafes.  The tour also involved visits to historic buildings and an art gallery.

Newly added to the Taste History Culinary Tour  is The Organic Tea Bar located in the Pineapple Grove Arts District of Downtown Delray Beach, Florida.

The Organic Tea Bar was a fun, educational and healthy experience for the tour guests from the Four Seasons who sampled a selection of teas uniquely named Vanilla Truffle Berry, White Coconut Creme and Blueberry Pomegranate.  The Organic Tea Bar is housed at DU20 Holistic Oasis which is operated by the sister and brother team of Natalie Kusturic and Dr. Nick Kusturic.  Dr. Nick gave an informative presentation about the benefits of drinking organic tea.

The historic origin of drinking tea dates back to the 10th century BC in Burma (now Myanmar) but tea has been known in the Country of China since 2700 BC.  Tea plants are indigenous to East and South Asia.  In the 16th century, the Portuguese explorers were the first leaders with importing tea to Europe at which time tea was referred to as cha' which is from the Mandarin and Cantonese language. The Dutch government established the Dutch East India Company which began a monopoly of transporting tea from China to Europe in 1610.  The etymology of the  word tea is from the Min dialect of the Min people of China.

The Four Seasons group also appreciated food tastings at Donnie's Southern Restaurant, and Scuola Vecchia Pizzeria both in Delray Beach. And, Taste History took the group to Downtown Boynton Beach to the Hurricane Alley Raw Bar & Restaurant; and The Little House both located on historic Ocean Avenue. Debby Coles-Dobay, Public Arts Administrator for the City of Boynton Beach, made a presentation to the tour about the kinetic art sculpture  by Tom Brewitz that has been mounted for Boynton's upcoming Kinetic Art Symposium.  The art work is located at The Little House restaurant.  And, there was a tour of the historic Boynton Woman's Club in Boynton Beach, Florida which was designed by the famed architect Addison Mizner and built in 1926.   The Beachcomber Art Gallery in Boynton Beach also welcomed the tour for a visit.
