You’ve probably said—or thought—something like this before: This summer, I’m going to take advantage of the slower pace by exploring my own backyard—art galleries, historic districts, and restaurants, say, I’ve yet to experience in any purposeful way or perhaps never knew about in the first place (shame!).

If food/restaurants are a category that figure high on your list: Consider trying Taste History Culinary Tours—they touch down each month in Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and Lake Worth—conducted by the Boynton Beach-based Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History...Click Here to visit story on PBDAILYNEWS.com.

The July 14, 2012 Taste History Culinary Tour made its first-ever visit  to the Mango Inn Bed & Breakfast in Lake Worth, Florida. Delicious Mango-infused French Toast was served to the tour guests.

This past Saturday, the four-hour guided downtown Lake Worth tour—a combination of bus-riding and strolling—included stops/tastings at the 1915-built Mango Inn Bed & Breakfast (mango-infused French toast), The Cottage Restaurant (penne alla vodka), The Juice Bar (organic smoothies and sandwich wraps), Brogues Down Under Irish Pub (sausage rolls and pavlova), The Tortilleria (tortillas) and George’s Meat Market (chili infused with the market’s private-label seasoning).

Also on the tour: galleries (with working local artists on hand) and other points of interest in Lake Worth’s downtown LULA arts district, including the 1921-built Hummingbird Hotel.

The Taste History Culinary Tours ($35; children free) of Lake Worth began this past spring after ones in Delray and Boynton began routinely selling out. Restaurants that have partnered with the tours are `rotated’ on the itinerary so no two consecutive tours include the same eateries.

The tours, sponsored in part by Macy’s and a couple of charitable funds, begin at 11  a.m. on the second, third and fourth Saturdays of each month. Tours of Delray and Boynton are offered on the third and fourth Saturday; Lake Worth/Lantana is on the second Saturday.
For more information or tickets: call (561) 243-2662 or visit www.mlfhmuseum.org or ww.tastehistoryculinarytours.blogspot.com.

The family-owned George's Meat Market in Downtown Lantana, Florida used its own private label seasoning for the Chili cuusine samples made with beef which George's grinds on the premises.

Due to the exceeding popularity of the Taste History Culinary Tours of Historic Palm Beach County, the first seven-months sold-out. To meet the demand for the culinary tours, more dates have been added with the tours being expanded to consist of food samplings in historic Lake Worth including Lantana in Palm Beach County, Florida. Therefore, the tours are held at 11am year-round on the second, third and fourth Saturdays of each month, plus private group tours are offered. Delicious History Lessons:
Taste History Culinary Tours on July 21 and 28

As Lori Durante leads a small, sweating pack of culinary tourists east on Atlantic Avenue on a recent Saturday afternoon, she breaks her swift stride momentarily to point across the street, toward Johnnie Brown's, a burger and barbecue joint in Delray Beach.

"Johnnie Brown's was named for Addison Mizner's famous pet monkey," Durante says before resuming her brisk pace and leading the group to its next tour stop at Scuola Vecchia Pizza e Vino, peppering the remaining walk with other tidbits about the ever-changing landscape of downtown Delray Beach.

Durante, director of the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History, is the creator and guide for the museum's thrice-monthly Taste History Culinary Tours. The next tour is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday and will include multiple stops in Delray Beach and Boynton Beach, many of which involve tasting regional and international cuisine... Mango-infused French Toast featured on Food Tour of Lake Worth & Lantana

The July 14, 2012 Lake Worth/Lantana Taste History Culinary Tour traveled to 8 sites for food tastings and visits to art galleries. Newly added to this gastronomy tour is the Mango Inn Bed & Breakfast which served delicious farm-to-table mango-infused French Toast. The tour continued to The Cottage Restaurant, The Juice Bar, Brogues Down Under Irish Pub, The Tortilleria and George's Meat Market. Art galleries visited were the Lake Worth Art League Gallery and the Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery.

Take a look at the photos:
The delectable Mango-infused French Toast at the Mango Inn Bed & Breakfast offered an organically green experience because the mangoes used were grown locally on the Mango Inn property. Mangoes are considered indigenous to Eastern Asia, India, Pakistan and the Phillipines.  The word "Mango", originally spelled "Mankay" or "Mangay," derived from the Portuguese who settled in Western India.  Portuguese explorers introduced the Mango tree to the Western Hemisphere in the 1700s.

The Mango Inn Bed & Breakfast in Lake Worth, Florida is located in a former private home.   This popular bed and breakfast was built in 1915. From 1941 to 1949, the Mayor of Lake Worth, John “Jack” Thomas Barton, lived in the home. The Mango Inn was converted into a bed and breakfast in 1995.

Chili at George's Meat Market in Lantana, Florida created with meat grinded on the premises. According to food historians, the Chili cuisine originated in the Southwestern United States in the 17th Century and its original recipe included meat, onions, tomatoes and chili peppers.  The Chili peppper originated around 7500 BC in Central and South Americas.  The Spaniards brought the Chili pepper to New Mexico in the 16th century. It was in 1731 that the Chili "stew" arrived in the Spanish province of Texas. Today, a variety of Chili dishes are created that include beans.

Palm Beach Gardens, FL Historical Society hosted on Lake Worth-Lantana Culinary Tour

Check out the photos from the June 30, 2012 Taste History Culinary Tour of Historic Lake Worth & Lantana. This private tour was hosted for 20 members of the Palm Beach Gardens Historical Society.  It marked the first time a historical society took a tour of the City of Lake Worth and Town of Lantana.  The bonus for this food tour was that these special Palm Beach Gardens Historical Society members were warmly greeted by the City Manager for Lake Worth, a current Lake Worth Commissioner, the Director of the Lake Worth Library, Co-Chair of the Lake Worth Centennial plus the first African American Commissioner for the City of Lake Worth.  In the Town of Lantana the tour guests were welcomed by representatives from the Lantana Historical Society, the Lantana Chamber of Commerce and a welcome letter was received from the Mayor of Lantana, FL.

The specially designed June 30th gastronomy tour traveled to the Sabal Palm House Bed & Breakfast for Organic Tea provided by Barbara The Tea Specialist and homemade Scones created by the innkeeper. The tour continued to The Cottage Restaurant, The Juice Bar, Brogues Down Under Irish Pub, The Tortilleria and George's Meat Market. Art galleries and cultural sites toured were the Lake Worth Art League Gallery; the Lake Worth Historical Museum, the Clay, Glass, Metal, Stone Gallery; the historic St. John's Episcopal Church and the historic building for the Lantana Chamber of Commerce. The guests from Palm Beach Gardens patronized many of the businesses and galleries visited for the tour.
