Members of the Mirasol Country Club of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a private Taste History Culinary Tour of Historic Lake Worth & Lantana, Florida on Monday, January 20, 2014. These culinary tours are multicultural journeys through history, food and art. The food tastings were enhanced by narrated history about the first settlers to Lake Worth who were Samuel and Fannie James. The James's were African Americans believed to be former slaves and their settlement in the area pre-dates Lake Worth's incorporation in 1913. The James's arrived in the area in 1885 with Fannie James later applying for a post office designation where she selected the name of Jewell for the area and served as the postmistress.
In the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vision of racial harmony, the tour featured the African American and European contributions in Lake Worth and Lantana as well showcasing the multicultural aspects of foods on the tour. The Taste History Culinary Tour scheduled for the Mirasol Country Club traveled to the Sabal Palm House Bed & Breakfast, the Java Juice Bar, Brogues Down Under, Maryanne Webber Gallery, the LULA Arts District and the Cheese & Wine Café. Macy's is the lead sponsor of Taste History. Additional support provided by the Patricia Ann Ravo Fund and the Boris & Edith Rueger Fund.

The Oakley Theater opened during the land boom in 1924 but was mostly destroyed in the devastating hurricane on 1928. The theater was re-built and re-opened in 1929. In 1975, the Lake Worth Playhouse purchased the Oakley Theater hence the name was changed. The building's architecture has been defined as Art Deco.
